Maleimide-PEG(5K)-PLGA(5K)-acid is a PEG-PLGA copolymer containing a maleimide group and a carboxylic acid. Maleimide is a site-specific ligand capable of selectively binding thiol residues along proteins, while carboxylic acids are reactive towards amines and alcohols to form amides and esters respectively. PLGA is often used in forming lipid nanoparticles for drug delivery, for which it is highly valued as it is also biodegradable along its ester bonds.
