Biotin-HPDP is a membrane-permeable reagent that is useful for labeling and affinity-purification that requires the recovery of original biomolecule. The 2-pyridyldithio group reacts optimally with free sulfhydryls at pH 7-8. The resulting disulfide bond between the target sulfhydryl molecule and biotin group can be cleaved by reducing agents to release the biomolecule in its original, unmodified form.
