An optical chemical species used in the preparation of samples for spectroscopic analysis. It is a general purpose laser that can be activated by a variety of wavelengths including radiation from the cavity or light emission. The sample cell is filled with a solution of [[(4-(tert butyl)-3,5-(dimethyl))pyrrolo[2,1,1]-benzoxazin] (DFB), which emits fluorescence upon excitation. Fluorescence lifetimes are measured using an energy efficient laser and solid phase microextraction. Optimum concentrations for DFB are about 0.05%.
