PC Mal-PEG4-NHS carbonate ester represents a photocleavable linker with a terminal maleimide that can react with thiol or cysteine to generate a thiosuccinimide molecule which is commonly used for bioconjugation. NHS carbonate ester labels the primary amines (-NH2) of proteins, amine-modified oligonucleotides, and other amine-containing molecules. The PEG spacer imparts hydrophilicity. This structure allows for efficient photorelease of linked molecules, typically achieving over 90% cleavage in 5-25 minutes using a near-UV lamp.
