An alkyne amino acid is an amino acid attached with a carbon–carbon triple bond (–C≡C–) either in its side chain or as part of a functionalized derivative. The presence of the alkyne group makes these amino acids highly valuable for chemical labeling and bioconjugation reactions. They are especially useful in protein labeling and click chemistry, where the alkyne functionality enables selective and efficient coupling with azide containing molecules.
