Kisspeptin was originally identified as a human metastasis suppressor gene that has the ability to suppress melanoma and breast cancer metastasis. Kisspeptin-GPR54 signaling has an important role in initiating secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) at puberty from the anterior pituitary. This amidated peptide sequence is found in C-terminal residues 110 to 119 of the neurohormone Metastin (also referred to as Kisspeptin-10); it increases plasma concentrations of GH (Growth Hormone) and LH (Luteinizing Hormone).
